What is ARGOT?

ARGOT is a biannual magazine featuring poetry, fiction and the occasional article or interview. Its content is weighted towards, but not limited to, local writers and young writers (and especially writers who are both).

The magazine is produced by the NUS Literary Society with the support of our kind sponsors (especially Singapore Press Holdings Ltd.) and the NUS Department of English Language and Literature. It is the successor to Focus, a magazine previously published by the Society. That publication was established in 1961 and, like ARGOT, carried quality writing from the NUS student body and beyond. Many of its contributors have gone on to achieve prominence in the literary world. These include Robert Yeo, Arthur Yap, Lee Tzu Pheng, Boey Kim Cheng and Eleanor Wong.

How can I get a copy of ARGOT?

ARGOT has an online edition which you can download from the main page of its website and a print edition which we distribute via various channels. Current distribution points are located at the NUS Department of English Language and Literature and BooksActually; more may be added in future. Both versions of ARGOT are available free of charge and carry identical content, but the print edition is shinier and has a nicer smell.

Since no profit is made directly from the distribution of the magazine, we unfortunately cannot send copies of it by mail (other than contributor copies).

How can I contribute to ARGOT?

Simply email your stories, poems and/or articles (for example, interviews, reviews or critical essays) to argotmagazine (at) gmail (dot) com. You may attach your works as .rtf files or paste them into the body of the email. We recommend doing both. For our convenience and yours, we request also that you use the format “SUBMISSION: [Your Name]” for the header. Reprints and simultaneous submissions are acceptable provided you inform us of the fact when submitting.

By submitting your work to us, you grant the NUS Literary Society, if and only if your submission should be accepted, the right to display the work on our website (in the form of a downloadable .pdf) in perpetuity as well as the one-time right to publish it in our print edition. All other rights remain with you. The Society must seek your permission if any further use is desired—for instance, if we should wish to include it in an anthology.

Regrettably, we are not able to pay our contributors.
