A brief description of her novel: “The novel is about a woman who comes back home to her mother’s house after learning that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. It won the Special Jury Prize for the novel at the recently concluded Premio Tomas, the Quadricentennial Literary Prize sponsored by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and was also awarded an Outstanding MFA Thesis when she graduated at De La Salle University (DLSU) with an MFA-Creative Writing degree. The novel is jointly published by DLSU and Central Books.”
Here is Ms Cham’s biography:
Joni Cham worked as a China analyst for over four years. Prior to that, she taught Literature at Far Eastern University and De La Salle University, where she completed her AB-Literature and MFA-Creative Writing degrees. Joni’s interest in different cultures and languages led her to travel to parts of Southeast Asia and China. She is relearning Mandarin and has ambitions of one day being able to converse in Bahasa indonesia, perhaps after she has improved her Spanish. In My Mother’s House is her debut novel.
